I have used Onyx for years, running it every second month or so. Go to and download OS 10.6 version. When installed the "Cleaning" section would itemise every cache though ticking and running the Automation section covers it sufficiently for me. I understand that some of these functions should naturally occur if you leave your Mac on overnight.
And is it possible to make, not just a rescue drive, but a bootable USB drive that will boot a fully updated version of the OS (say 10.6.8 or later)? If so how on a MacBook Air 11, and how big a USB stick will this require?

You can finish installing with lots of free space on the HS, run all the updates newer than your installer (10.6.8 for example), make an admin account, install the tools and apps you need. At the end of the process, you then thin out the things you don't need. DaisyDisk or WhatSize will show you all the large files and libraries. You can safely get rid of a lot of iLife and the associated Application Support. WhatSize has many options to strip out unneeded files, localizations and PPC code. Once you have slimmed down the bootable image on the HD partition, use the trick below to get it on the USB drive. Leopard was a tight fit in 8G but Snow Leopard is lighter and doesn't need to diet as much.
Hi mates.I have an iMac Intel 3,06GHz Dual Core Duo, 4 Gb Ram with 10.6.8 installed. My problem is as follows: after I switch it on and run some common applications (iMail, Safari, iTunes) suddenly my available memory starts being eaten up and drops rapidly to around 100 MB or lower and everything starts running like a snail (so to speak). I have installed Onyx, but I cannot find the purge command (there is no memory tab). Any suggestions?Thank you.
In December 2021, MariaDB announced its new release model: quarterly releases with a one-year maintenance period of each release. MariaDB 10.6 is the last database version that falls under the old release model and has a five-year maintenance period (long-term support).
As a local database server, we recommend that you install a long-term support release (LTS release) of MariaDB. At the moment, LTS releases are MariaDB 10.6 and earlier. If MariaDB has other LTS releases in the future, Plesk will support them as a local database server as well.
OnyX is a simple but incredibly powerful maintenance and optimization tool for OS X. Note that this version is only for OS X 10.5 Leopard. There are alternative downloads for OS X 10.2, 10.3, 10.4, 10.5, 10.6 and 10.7.
